During the Marcus Wallenberg Prize event a group of 30 PhD and PostDocs under 35 years of age were selected to participate in a tailor-made program. The idea is to stimulate collaboration, inspire research and create networking opportunities.
This year the participants were from seven countries: Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Sweden, United Kingdom and USA (19 women and 11 men). Sponsored by Erik Johan Ljungbergs Educational Foundation, universities and research institutions.
Their program consisted of presentations by MWP Young Researchers’ Alumni Magdalena Svanström, Chalmers University of Technology, and Frédéric Pouyet, RISE, sharing inspiration from their careers. They also got the opportunity to listen to entrepreneur presentations by Mikael Lindström from Renewcell and Olli Ylä-Jarkko from TreeToTextile. Furthermore, insights were given about three of the research initiatives made by the Wallenberg Foundations: WISE – Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability by Magnus Berggren; WWSC – Wallenberg Wood Science Centre by Eva Malmström Jonsson, and MAX IV Laboratory by Kim Nygård.
The young researchers were also engaged and had a lot of questions in the very inspirational panel discussions with MWP Laureates of 2022 and 2020.
All participants also performed with 3MT presentations about their own research. These presentations were filmed and the recordings are available at Marcus Wallenberg Prize Youtube channel: MWP Young Researchers’ Program 2022 – YouTube
Members of the MWP Selection Committee together with the students ranked the presentations. the top three presentations were awarded; Winner: Karl Alexander Henn, Aalto University, Finland; Second place: Tobias Nenning, BOKU – University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences – Vienna, Austria; Third place: Luísa Rosenstock Völtz, Luleå University of Technology; Sweden.
All students also contributed with a poster about their own research, and a poster session took place in connection to the MWP Symposium.
The highlight of the event was undoubtably the Marcus Wallenberg Prize Ceremony and Banquet where Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden participated.
